Philips AVENT has been a huge supporter of many of the Lamaze education efforts over the years. If you’re not familiar with the company, AVENT is most known for their line of breastfeeding gear, including breast pumps, milk storage and breast health items. I’m proud to say that AVENT was one of the brands I turned to as a new and second-time mom and I was very happy with the quality and usefulness of their products.
What you may not know, is that AVENT also makes a line of baby monitors. And lucky for you, AVENT is giving away their awesome Digital Video Monitor to one Giving Birth with Confidence reader as part of our month of Mother’s Day giveaway celebration! Here is more information on the monitor:
The SCD600 Digital Video Monitor from Philips AVENT features a generous operating range, superb sound quality, and a high-resolution digital-quality color screen, so you’ll hear and see your baby no matter where you are in your home. With the infrared night vision feature, this digital video monitor even allows you to view your baby in the dark.
Features include:
- Digital Camera and High-Resolution Screen Provide Crystal Clear Viewing
- Infrared Night Vision for Round-the-Clock Monitoring
- Display Screen and LEDs Signal Noise Level in Your Baby’s Room
- Generous Operating Range and Cordless Mobility
- Automatic Channel Selection Provides a 100% Private Connection
- Lullabies and Nightlight to Help Sooth Your Baby
While I personally did not have a video monitor for my kids, several of my friends did and I can tell you that it was so much fun to take a sneak-peak in on their little ones sleeping — something I rarely did for fear of waking my boys! I also know that it was a useful tool for moms and dads to help with peace of mind to know that their children were safe and comfortable while they slept.
One Giving Birth with Confidence reader will win the SCD600 Digital Video Monitor from Philips AVENT!

The winners of last Monday’s Lamaze Learning Curve toy bundles giveaway are:
Diana, who said, “I took a Lamaze birthing class for my first, but not for the second. I was a bit scared of what labor was going to be like and didn’t know what might happen. Taking a class with Full Circle Lamaze was the best thing I could’ve done — I was well-prepared, knew what they might do, got a recommended doula, and had some great techniques to use. I was able to do 2 natural births; each one used different techniques as what worked for the first did nothing on the second.”
Molly, who said, “I did take a childbirth class during my first pregnancy. I felt like it was “required” almost in order to prepare for a good birth! (I never considered NOT taking one–it felt like the “thing to do.”) I also took it because I felt like it was important for my husband to have the birth class experience. During my second pregnancy, I became a childbirth educator! During my last pregnancy, I did a childbirth class homestudy program to “experiment” with another type of childbirth education other than what I teach.”
Nina, who said, “I took a childbirth class before my first baby and was able to have natural childbirths for both him and my new 2 month old!”
Rachel, who said, “We are expecting our first child any day now, and we definitely took a childbirth class. We chose the Bradley Method, which is fairly intensive in terms of class time, and were very happy with it!”
Congratulations to the winners and thank you to all who participated!

I love avent products and have used them with my first baby and I plan to for this baby as well. They seem to hold up and work as advertised.
I have only used Avent bottles before. They worked just fine for me – so yes, i would recommend them!
I have no experience with Avent products, but have heard great things about them!

I used the avent manual breastpump for my oldest son and loved it. The “petals” padding made nursing at the beginning so much easier that I actually preferred it over the hospital grade electric. It is so easy to use and so comfortable and made pumping for my son so much more pleasant. We used the bottles that came with the pump since I like it’s wide mouth opening but I had a lot of issues with them leaking so we didnt use the bottles for my other kids
Absolutely love Avent bottles! It’s the one and only brand we’ve used, and buy for others as gifts, with our first 3 babies and plan on using with baby #4 due in July!

Before 1-week of my labour day, I have UTI. It’s very painful experienced. My gynae asked me to admit to hospital December 5, 2010 night to put pills to dilate my cervix to soften on the next day at 5.00am. By 8.00am, my gynae force to leak amniotic fluid and checked my cervix – I was 2 cm dilated. He gave me induction labour and expecting the baby will deliver in the afternoon. Unfortunately my cervix open too slow and he has to put stronger medicine to give me more painful to soften the cervix faster.
At 4.30pm, the contractions were very intense and coming one right after the other with very little rest between. I was exhausted. The pain was intense. I can feel the medicine is stronger. This was not like anything I ever imagined. There was no way I could take any more. I would look at midwife and asked for painkiller and say, “I can’t do this!” to which she responded, “You ARE doing it!” She led me through a guided imagery that helped me focus on the task, relax and open up.
Then I felt downward pressure and the urge to push like going to shit. I started pushing 7cm dilated because left another 1.5 hours if I can’t deliver the baby have to go for C-Section.
Finally, I managed to give natural birth. At 7:30pm, December 6, 2010, my world forever changed and I started the journey of a lifetime – motherhood. I gave birth to a handsome baby boy. Victor Sew weighed 3.0kg. He was immediately placed on my chest where he promptly peed all over me! We were covered in warm towels and snuggled up together – tears running down my husband’s nose and sweat running down my cheeks – we were a family!
During confinement, I gave Victor mixed breast milk and formula milk. I thought I can’t produce enough breast milk using Pureen single auto pump only can get 2-3oz. When back to work, I have bought Philips AVENT Isis Duo Pump and it gave me double of my existing result7-9oz. At this moment, I’m still giving exclusive breast milk. In order to success breastfeeding need to have patient, determination, persistent to be successful and good pump is important. Thanks to Philips AVENT. I did share my experienced to them.
Actually I’m looking for SCD600 Digital Video Monitor from Philips AVENT but it is not sale in Malaysia. My baby 5mths old and now start turning body up and down which I feel dangerous when baby sleeping alone at baby cot and I need to have the monitoring tools for safety. I really wish I can own one.

My only experience with Avent so far is with a bottle. I nursed all three children, but had problems after being ill during my son’s first year. He ended up having to be supplimented with a bottle and Avent was the brand we used. I thought it worked well.
